Global Positioning System better known as GPS is a satellite navigation system. With the help of GPS, it is possible to determine the exact three dimensional positions, location, velocity etc. of a person or object, and time 24 hours a day, in all weather, anywhere in the world with precision and accuracy GPS is funded by and controlled by the U. S. Department of Defense (DOD).

Historically it was started by US military for its internal use but presently it is used by thousands worldwide.
